The UK Microsoft recruitment partner, Curo Talent, has been shortlisted for two Onrec Awards. The Microsoft recruitment expert has been listed in the ‘Creative Online Marketing’ and ‘Innovative Use of Social Media’ categories and it will find out whether it has been successful at the awards ceremony in London on March 1, 2018.

The two nominations recognise the company’s space launch campaign that took place in November 2017. This event saw the team from Curo Talent working alongside near space experts, Sent Into Space, to launch a Microsoft Surface Book 2 to the edge of space, just days after Microsoft’s official release.

Along for the ride with the Surface Book 2 were a series of postcards from IT candidates. The postcards contained personal messages from the job seekers to family, friends and the universe. After the payload returned to Earth the postcards were delivered to the candidates with a certificate of authenticity.

To soar to the stratosphere, the Surface Book 2 and postcards were attached to a hydrogen inflated latex balloon that travelled beyond the Armstrong limit — the altitude above which no human can survive without a pressurised environment. On its descent, the device endured speeds of over 200 miles per hour and landed nearly 100 miles away from the launch site.

“We weren’t sure whether the Surface Book 2 would survive its journey,” said Mark Sewell, chief information officer (CIO) at Curo Talent. “However, we were pleased to hear that it not only survived its mission but is in perfect working condition. We’re now planning on giving it to a senior executive from Microsoft to commemorate the mission.”

“A group of local school children came to witness the balloon launch,” Sewell continued. “They were so engaged with the event and had plenty of questions for the space experts afterward. It’s events like this that will capture their imagination and maybe encourage them to pursue a career in a STEM industry, just like our current team and our candidates.”

The Onrec Awards will be held on March 1, 2018 at The Grange, St Pauls, London and will celebrate the success, growth, innovation, and achievements in the online recruitment industry.
